Yesterday, July 18, a green carpet was unrolled on State Street between First and Second Streets in downtown Los Altos to create the State Street Green, and it was a glorious sight. What a perception shift, to see what was once asphalt and parked cars morph into an inviting and surprisingly shady green space! By this weekend, lawn chairs will be dotting the green and plants from the Los Altos Nursery will be adorning the chalkboard-and-magnet-walled orange planter boxes at each end of the Green. A big thank you to the Furuichi family for loaning the plants, to Pete Moffat Construction for building the planter boxes, to the H&H Company for loaning the chairs and Imagination Playground blocks, and most of all to Kathy Kleinbaum, Tuck Younis, Marcia Somers, and the rest of the staff at the City of Los Altos for approving and orchestrating this wonderful temporary pop-up park!
